Wedding traditions for todays Bride

When it comes to traditions, you can’t fit many more into one occasion than you can on a Wedding day! From the brides choice of a gown to the ceremony itself, the best man's speech, the first dance and the bouquet toss, your big day will be a constant nod to tradition. You might find some of the customs aren't in keeping with the style of your wedding, but when it comes down to bridal jewellery, you'll appreciate many of the old traditions, mainly because the bride comes out of it pretty well, with lots of sparkly options…

Pearls:

It is traditionally the job of the groom or the father-of-the-bride to gift the bride with pearls on the day of her wedding. Pearls are seen as a symbol of perfection, purity and innocence, and it is said that the ancient Greeks believed pearls would help ensure marital bliss and prevent newlywed brides from crying!

The Engagement Ring:

The tradition of wearing the engagement ring on the third finger of the left-hand stems back to Ancient Egypt, as the Egyptians believed that it contained a vein which led to the heart. Old fashioned conventions suggest that a man should spend between one and three months’ salary on an engagement ring for his bride-to-be, and the average man spends around one to three months shopping for the perfect ring! Engagement ring styles change with fashions but a round cut brilliant diamond or a princess cut are always elegant and stylish, presented in white gold or platinum settings.

The Wedding Ring:

It has always been the case that the bride receives a ring on her wedding day, but in the 1920s the American jewellery industry started a marketing campaign which was aimed at encouraging men to wear a wedding ring tool. This was incredibly successful, and by the late 1940s, 80% of couples were both wearing wedding bands. Will your new husband be wearing a wedding ring?
